Dismissals Challenged: Meat Hygiene Service

(April 2008)

UNISON is supporting claims for unfair dismissal on behalf of 23 Meat Technicians/Inspectors who were dismissed as redundant after being given only one days notice in November last year. The claims will be heard by the Civil Service Appeal Board in May or June. UNISON Regional Convenor for the MHS, Alan Howarth, said “Our members were invited for a meeting with their line managers on 19th November and told they would be dismissed the following day. They literally packed their personal belongings and left. This is far from acceptable treatment from any employer let alone a Government Agency.”
