Retired Members
Unlike old soldiers, local Government officers
who are members of the Wakefield branch of UNISON do not fade away,
the good ones come and join the retired members section.
Yes, there is a retired members social group. We meet each month,
purely for enjoyment, for ten months of the year, avoiding August
and December. In the four months when we might expect the best weather
we have outings by coach, and for the remaining six months we meet,
by the grace our Council Leaders, in the warmth and comfort of County
Hall, entertained by guest speakers.
Former ranks does not carry into our membership which in the years
since our inauguration in 1982 has rightly included all comers from
former Chief Officers down to colleagues from the most humble of
positions.
During those years we have had some 80 excellent outings, and many
fascinating and entertaining speakers from widely varied backgrounds.
We have a membership fee of 50 pence a year (yes 50 pence) to covers
speakers fees and any other costs, and last year, from the
balance which had accrued from our 50 pences, we were able to make
a donation to Wakefield Hospice.
Our meetings take place on the fourth Thursday of the month. Details
of our current years programme and of the new programme for
2005 are available from the Branch office.
We would love to have you join us.

Recently retired?
know of a work colleague who has recently retired?
If you want to carry
your membership into retirement you need to contact the Branch
Office and complete a retired members card we are not
advised by any of the employers when people retire so we cannot
automatically put members into the retired members section.
As a retired member
you still have access to many of the UNISON benefits
Legal assistance, UNISON insurance and Welfare assistance
to name but a few and at the present time this Branch of UNISON
does not charge for Life Retired membership
What a bargain!!
