UNISON and Sport in the Community

Featherstone Rovers
We continue our sponsorship of Featherstone Rovers. The club had a successful season last year progressing to League One of the National League. We still have the ground boards and also have a programme advertisement. This year we have secured a number of tickets for League games instead of the infamous box as members stated that they would rather have ground tickets. (the only way to apply for tickets was through an application form on the latest Branch Newsletter - look out for future editions of UNISON News for more offers!)
Wakefield Wildcats

The UNISON logo is on the shirts again, this time on the collars. Last season saw the club finishing in mid table of the Super League, with our sponsored games being Bradford Bulls, Leeds Rhinos and Huddersfield Giants. This season we are sponsoring the games against Castleford Tigers, Harlequins and the Catalan Dragons.

A new board will be appearing at the ground with the UNISON logo on and we will continue to have an advertisement in the match day programme. The sponsorship deal will be of benefit to branch members and the club itself. It marks a burgeoning partnership between two organisations which are established at the heart of the local community.

Wakefield ARL District Team

The newly formed Wakefield ARL District Team, sponsored by the Branch, were due to play Russian team Moscow Vereyoi on the 27th February. The team was over here to play in the first round of the Rugby League Challenge Cup. A reception was arranged by our International Officer John Gill at the Branch Office on the 25th February. Alas the event was called off due to visa problems.

The team eventually played a representative team from the Prison Service at Eastmoor on 5th March sporting their brand new playing kit which carries the UNISON logo. The side won comfortably 66-4 and had players from Sharlston Rovers, Crofton Cougars, Crigglestone All Blacks, Normaton Knights, Ackworth Jaguars, Upton, Ryhill Hammers, Kettlethorpe and Westgate Redoubt.

The Branch is proud to be associated with the team which is an integral part of the community.

Frickley Football Club
After losing their main sponsor for last season, the GMB; Wakefield UNISON continue to sponsor Frickley. The club did not have a good start to the season; although, at present, their fortunes seem to be turning round. Match days at the club are a real community affair. Just to pass a few minutes at half time you can see how many UNISON banners and boards you can spot around the ground.
